About Ellie

Based in Brighton

Ellie Sargant is a UK-based painter living in Crawley, West Sussex, and working in Brighton, where she has a studio at Red Herring Studios. She graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton in 2025. Her work has been exhibited across the UK, including exhibitions in London, Brighton, Newhaven, Kings Hill, and St Leonards, with shows at Southwark Park Galleries, Phoenix Art Space, and other contemporary and artist-led spaces.

Her practice has received recognition through a nomination for the Freelands Painting Prize and being longlisted for Jackson’s Art Prize. Her work has also been featured in ROSA Magazine. Alongside exhibiting, she has contributed to curatorial and organisational projects, including co-organising exhibitions and producing a degree show catalogue. She is a member of Brighton Women Artists, supporting greater visibility for women in the UK art scene.

Her paintings remain rooted in material exploration, using pouring, scraping, layering, and removal to create surfaces that record their own making. Each work holds traces of decision, memory, and change, treating painting as both a physical and emotional act
